    Seekins Havak PH2

Excellent! I've known Glen Seekins for a long time, he's a good man. I did give him some trash a while ago for putting the rifling on the outside of his barrels, but I see that he's still doing that. Must make the rifling super easy to clean... ;) Really glad that your new rifle is...

Moose - Bighorn Sheep - Mountain Goat - Bison draw for Montana is out.

The description of the area seems like it's near or includes the famous 9-mile canyon... Lots of ancient native rock art there, and yes, the country is rough. There's also a lot of private land, ranches mostly. Interesting place. I'd like to spend more time there.

Beaver and raccoon seen on this morning's walk

Ol' Maverick and I walked along the Columbia again this morning. The beaver swam past. We watched three raccoons foraging along the bank: Guy

Hunt for a Man-Killing black bear!

Something to try is ejecting a loaded round... Once I had 30-06 rounds that shot great but were too long. The bullet stuck in the rifling! So when I tried to eject the loaded round, the bullet stayed in the barrel while the case was ejected and powder spilled, filling the chamber and action...

Beaver and raccoon seen on this morning's walk

Both of these critters were hoped for, but not expected. They "could" be there, but usually they're not. I really lucked out this morning and both of them showed up, well lit by the morning sun. I'm grateful. Guy

Beaver and raccoon seen on this morning's walk

Maverick and I walked nearly 5 miles in town this morning, some of it along the Columbia River. We saw a beaver, which is fairly unusual for me to see. Also saw a raccoon on the bank of the river: The osprey were quite active too - but I didn't get any particularly good photos of them. Guy

    Too old.

You've got one mighty fine hunting rifle there! Thanks for sharing the photos & info. Yes, the 30-06 is good about tolerating different powders and bullets. Guy

Hunt for a Man-Killing black bear!

One heck of a story from years ago, hunting down a man-killing black bear. Some scoff at black bears, but I respect them...

Not as cool as Bear Cubs...

We've got rather a lot of raccoons in the area. I used to see them often in the city while patrolling at night. Before heading out today I actually thought "well maybe I'll see a raccoon or something on today's walk, better take the telephoto." :) Guy

Not as cool as Bear Cubs...

My dog and I met a new friend while walking along the Columbia River this morning: I don't think the raccoon really trusted my hunting dog... good judgement there! :) Guy

    55 grain BT in 8 Twist .243

Closest combo I used was the 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips from a 1:9 twist 6mm Remington. I was trying to reach that awesome 4,000 fps promised in the manuals, but had only a well-worn 22" Remington factory barrel and fell a bit short in velocity. Accuracy was "okay" but not as good as the rifle...

    LEOSA Retired Officer Qual today

That one chest shot, high and left, at about 11 o'clock... ALMOST put it out of the maximum score area. I think that was fired from my support hand. Didn't group real well with those shots. I shall have to practice more with my weak/support hand. The good ol' Ruger 22/45 and a pile of 22 long...
