.308 Hornady Match - Hunting equivalent

I used the 168 HPBT Horn as my “blasting equivalent” to the Nosler Ballistic Tip of the same weight and flung em with identical components out to about 400 w/o a difference large enough to notice in hunting conditions.

    Bear with a fawn...

Yep there’s a lot paid upon wolves & coyotes but I don’t think that black bears get their due when it comes to fawn predation. That’s a crazy pic. New Jersey cat ladies can’t quite picture that like we can; one cuddly creature eating another in so brutal a fashion. Happens all the time tho eh??

When Did The 308 Win Become Trash?

.308 Win is boringly predictable and doesn’t make the gun & ammo companies a ton of money in new sales. But it kills stuff as dead as can be, does so with regularity and authority, is typically accurate, and ammo is available in most places where such things are sold. Same goes for the .30-06...

First reloads for the interarms mark x 30/06

Ha Dr Mike beat me to it. I’ve looked at targets on notebook paper like that through spotter and gotten that “gut sink” before remembering the three hole punches in the side! Nice shooting rifle you got there Fotis those are really nice rifles so no surprise. Not much you can’t do with that...

    Springfield 03-a3 6.5-06

Purchased the tube as a short-chambered, contoured, & ready to install item on GB. People were liquidating a gunsmith’s estate. I have a 338 WM tube for a Springfield from that estate as well; pondering a .33 Noz w/ that? Anyway seller said they’d measured and “best they could tell” it was 9”...

    Springfield 03-a3 6.5-06

Yeah I was more than a little irritated; after this season it’ll go to Shaw for a SS 1-in-8” tube & then I’ll mount a SS 6x42 MQ on it and be ready to rock way out there.

    Springfield 03-a3 6.5-06

It’s been a while here fellas but I wanted to give a report on this rifle. Unfortunately the barrel I purchased wasn’t twisted as advertised (1-in-9”) so the 130 VLDs & 140 NBTs were keyholing. The 120 GMXs made what could better be described as patterns than groups. The blemished 100 GR...

    Enduron powders:

I finally got the Springfield-based 6.5-06 I built back in ‘17 shooting. Unfortunately the GB description of 1-in-9” twist hasn’t proven true so anything I’ve tried longer than a 100 GR TTSX patterns rather than groups. The 100 GR TTSX load I settled on, however, is a max charge of 4955. It...

    Midway Deals

I got to visit the Hornady factory this past fall on my way home from a hunt. I visited with the gentleman in the ballistics lab and asked this exact question because I've had such great results from blemished 90 gr GMXs ina couple .257s. They gave numeric standards for hunting and another...

    Knives????????????

I keep a Leatherman Wingman in my backpack all the time. I have a Cold Steel tanto blade as an EDC that gets used constantly. For hunting my son has a Cold Steel Master Hunter I got used on the 'fire that is a crazy quality blade, takes & holds an edge beautifully, but is a bit utilitarian on...

    How much is too fast?

One thing I've done when working with a load I'm unsure whether I'm comfortable with is to pick 3 random cases that give the appearance of potential "heat" and pull them out. Every time I go to the range, no matter what rifle I plan to "play" with, I make sure to pop off those three rounds...
