Took the teslong borescope out. Here are just a few pics.
Firecracking about an inch in the bore.
And have this for most of the length of the bore.
And near the muzzle:
The lapping bullets might help enough to keep the groups down some. Cheaper than a new barrel.
Never ran RL23 in either of mine. Started out way back with IMR4831 then tried IMR7828ssc and H1000 pushing the 110 gr NABLR bullets. In mine, I found the best speed and accuracy with IMR7977.
Wish I could find a use for the pound of RL23 I have though.
Guy Minor & 1100 Remington,
Fajen seemed to ALWAYS have great wood in stock. The loss of that company to the industry was a major loss to hunters wanting beautiful wood on their firearms.
I've had one since they first came out back in '69 or '70. 700 ADL model Remington. Started out with Winchester Expanding Point bullets and knocked deer down every time. Had it re-stocked and gave it to my Dad when his 270 died.
Consistently puts 5 into .75 even after over 3000 rounds down the...
I've been using them for years primarily for my shotgun reloading needs. Several years back, they got into supplies for rifles and handguns.
They ship via USPS primarily, so, not the fastest. But, they seem to have things in inventory when others don't.
Not worth a crap. Group was scattered over a 6" 'group'. Will try again with the 125 NP and see if I can get anything worth the effort with IMR4350
Also thinking of trying the 125 NP with RL 23 and see how that might work.
I finally broke out the borescope. Never should have done that. This...
None of them grouped well but then again, it's a fairly thin barrel and it had the MS hanging off of it.
I'm thinking maybe part of the problem is a few of the brass I was using was only 1x fired while most was 3x fired.
I'll try again with just 3x fired stuff and see.
Well, took 10 rounds out to run through my Magnetospeed and had MV running from 2981 down to 2851. I'd also loaded 8 rounds and put them in the freezer overnight to see what changes. Oddly enough, taking them one at a time out of an ice chest and shooting over the MS, the velocity dropped down...
Ok, another update on the Newton.
Finally got the Scenars (123 gr) and got some loaded with the IMR 7828ssc. Ran from 52 gr up to 53.5 (had loads at 53.8 and 54.1) and put 3 into a slightly larger than a half inch group. At 97 degrees and light/no winds, I'll call it good.
If it will post...
I'm in agreement with 1Shot, in YOUR rifle, as soon as you saw extractor marks or any other signs, you are at max load and then some.
If you are dead set on Retumbo (or any other powder for that matter), work with what you have found out. And that is that 69 grains is probably your safe max in...
Updated on another thread but thought I'd bring this one up to date (I hate when someone asks for help and then disappears)
Took the soda can angle.
2 shims under the rear base, 3 shims inside the bottom of the rear scope ring and 2 shims on top of the front scope ring (scope ring shims inside...
Just an update on this old thread.
4 days after I got the brass, my company truck caught fire in my driveway. It also caught the garage on fire. All of the 270 brass (heck, ALL of my brass) got partially annealed down to the bases. (did get $60 and $39 for the brass at the brass reclamation...
Some cast lead 210 grain plinkers and general mayhem and XTP 210 grain for the serious stuff.
I figured with the 8 slots for dies, I can set up for both the 41 and the 223 and have the powder on there as well. Should make it a bit easier to load. And, I can always get another turret for 357...
Went with the Lyman Brass Smith. Opticsplanet had it on sale for under $185. Should make loading .41 Mag and 223 a bit better.
Thanks for the replies and advice.
Lyman T7
Lee 4-hole turret
or
RCBS Turret
I'm wanting to load a bit faster when I'm loading for my 223/5.56 and for the 41 Mag. Wouldn't shoot either enough to warrant going blue nor do I have the bills to buy one.
I have an RCBS Rockchucker that does my more precision stuff for my bolt guns...
