I'd say that a 250 grain PT launched from your Whelen will work wonderfully for everything you might wish to hunt on this continent.

I think I may have showed this before but here is the only 250 PT I recovered from my 2012 African hunt. 2480 fps at the muzzle shot into a quartering towards me Wildebeest at 130ish yards. Everything else I shot was a complete pass through. What impresses me more is the trajectory of these big hunks of lead. A 200 yard zero doesn't yield much at 300 yards to my '06 shooting a 180 AccuBond.

That is perfect performance for sure.
The 35 Whelen loaded with the 250 gr PT at 2500ish fps doesn't give up much to the 375 H&H which is the very reason the 35 Whelen became such a popular wild cat.
